In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, Onondaga Historical Association (OHA) on February 6 will open in the museum’s first floor studio gallery a new exhibit entitled “Onondaga County at Gettysburg: A Sesquicentennial Remembrance.”
The focus will be on paintings, photos, diary entries and quotes to illustrate the experience of eight veterans who served at Gettysburg in one of the following locally-based regiments: the 3rd Onondaga (122 NY Infantry), the 4th Onondaga (the 149th NY Infantry), and Battery B of the 1st NY Light Artillery.
Also included in the exhibit is a three-part framed battlefield map that shows the military maneuvering that took place over the course of three days of fighting, July 1 – 3, 1863. The exhibit is available for viewing Wednesdays through Sundays when the museum is open.

On February 9, 2013, Father Champlin’s Guardian Angel Society will host its largest annual fundraising event, “Sweet Cabaret” to raise much needed funds and awareness for the education of local children in need, all while celebrating love and friendship. This year marks the 12th anniversary of this Valentine’s Day evening of dining, dancing and desserts. We are excited to be returning to the Oncenter and bringing three, all-new sets for dancing presented by Maria DeSantis Music. This year’s honorary chair-couple are Chuck and Irene LaBarbera who have been involved with Guardian Angel Society and the success of many of its student scholars.

OHA has amassed a collection of over 2,000 stereographs, or stereo views, of Onondaga County and beyond. Archived in the research holdings, these 3-D photographs have never before been exhibited. Guest curator Colleen Woolpert offers an overview of the collection, providing insight into the little known history of stereo photography while taking us back into the past with the aid of exhibition stereoscopes. The exhibit will be of interest to adults and children alike with historic viewing devices, books, and related 3-D ephemera.
Colleen Woolpert is an interdisciplinary artist who uses photography, video, installation, and performance to explore visual and psychological perception. Her work includes the stereographic viewers at Forman Park in Syracuse, part of the Connective Corridor. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on Friday, September 21 from 4 - 6 pm. The exhibit, reception, and museum are free and open to the public. The museum is open W-F 10 am - 4 pm; and S-S 11 am - 4 pm.

Pop Surreal/Lowbrow painter that uses fingers instead of brushes, part-time sculptor, rock manipulator, lazy photographer and creator of odd things.
An artist in general. Art maker, specifically. Eugenia Mancini Horan is a NY artist, back in the upstate NY area after experimenting with life on the west coast for 7 years. She has had shows from NYC to LA, and accumulated many collectors in the states and overseas. Her work is as diverse as her manner of thought, so you really never know what will come next from her mind or her work, only that it is something you *really* weren't expecting. The work is designed to make you think, or perhaps designed to make her think, because if all the blanks are filled in the magic is just... gone. Ms. Horan has extensively self-trained in Painting and has her B.A. in it as well as in Philosophy. Now she is able to both create art and prove it exists. Or, create art and prove she exists. She take pride in being perfectionist, rigidly meticulous, and an impressive flair for finishing mere seconds before a show deadline. She likes puppets and prefer dogs to people. Apparently she also dislikes writing autobiographies. The 2 most common adjectives overheard referring to Eugenia Mancini Horan are "unfiltered" and "unique."
If you ask if she does commissioned pieces, the answer is, "But of course!", but she says it in an English accent so it's totally worth asking just to hear.
